Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley
Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Founded in 1990, Northern Fox Valley has built 50 homes in Carpentersville, Elgin and St. Charles.
Organization Structure
Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is governed by a Board of Directors and has active committees including Family Selection, Family Support Services, Site Selection, Building and Fundraising.
The organization also benefits from the support of four partnerships which are defined as a collaboration of local churches, civic groups and businesses raising funds and volunteer support to build one house per year. The four partnerships are: Joyful Hands (Barrington area), New Hope (Carpentersville/Dundee/Elgin area) Pottawatomie (St. Charles area) and Spring of Life (Arlington Heights/Palatine area). The support received from the partnerships has increased the affiliate’s capacity for building homes. The Habitat Transaction
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent, affordable houses. The houses are sold at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are pooled and used to build more houses. Homeowners are chosen on the basis of need, willingness to partner with Habitat and ability to repay their loan.
Habitat Houses: Simple, Decent, Affordable
Simple. Habitat houses are modestly sized -- large enough for the homeowner family's needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
Decent. Habitat uses quality, locally available construction materials and meets all building codes. Experienced professionals and volunteers supervise house construction. Houses are designed to conform architecturally to the neighborhood.
Affordable. The donated labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and the no-profit, no-interest loan make mortgage payments affordable.

The driving force behind the organization is its volunteers— those who contribute a day, a week, a few months, to give Habitat’s vision a tangible form.
